Sylvia F. Dion About Sylvia F. DionSylvia F. Dion, a Certified Public Accountant, with a Masters in Taxation, is a tax executive with more than eighteen years of broad-based tax experience. Previously, she was a senior manager and acting practice leader for Grant Thornton’s Boston, Massachusetts State & Local Tax (“SALT”) practice. Prior to joining Grant Thornton, she was a senior manager and service line leader in Ernst & Young’s New England Area SALT Practice. In addition to her public accounting experience, she has also worked in the tax department of several corporations and has dealt first hand with the extensive SALT issues faced by companies with a multi-state presence. Currently, Sylvia specializes in providing tax consulting services to businesses of all sizes, and concentrates on advising and assisting clients with multi-state tax issues. Her focus areas include nexus studies, state tax controversy, state tax restructurings, refund analysis, state due diligence, exemption certificate and process reviews, unitary/combined reporting consultations, and the taxation of e-commerce and internet transactions. She is also regarded as an SME in all areas of Massachusetts taxation, and is often called upon to consult on Massachusetts’ tax issues.In addition to presenting to tax executive and industry groups, and on various Webinars, her articles on SALT issues and developments have been published in the Journal of Accountancy, Journal of State Taxation, Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives, Journal of Practical US/Domestic Tax Strategies, BNA Tax Management Multistate Tax Report, and BNA Weekly State Tax Report. She has also co-authored numerous firm published SALT Alerts and Industry Whitepapers, and is frequently quoted in articles on state tax issues. Sylvia is the creator, author and publisher of The State and Local Tax 'Buzz', a professional tax blog focused on SALT developments, is a monthly contributor to the “Business Tax Advisor” blog of AllBusiness.com, a D&B subsidiary and on-line SMB resource, and a guest contributor to the SpeedTax.com blog.
