Georgia Supports Streamlined Sales Tax – But So Far It’s BYOF

Georgia passed Streamlined Sales Tax legislation at approximately this time last year and on January 1, 2011, officially began following SST regulations.  As of today, Georgia has not presented the SST exemption form on their Department of Revenue website.  Their site still shows the last versions of the Resale and Manufacturing exemption forms.  Georgia will accept the SST form, so why won’t they post it on their site? They should want to tell everyone, “Hey, we accept the SST!”

I would think they would want to start collecting the SST form as most consider it an improvement. It is easier to understand and a person completing it is less likely to make mistakes.

What are your thoughts?  Is your company BYOF and utilizing the SST form for Georgia, or are you still using the forms as they are posted on the DOR website?

An update on this issue from SalesTaxSupport.com

Per Georgia DOR… Georgia has the Streamlined form available at this site: https://etax.dor.ga.gov/sst/SSUTExemptionCertificate3rdDraft.pdf. It’s posted on a page that is dedicated to Streamlined information and documents.

The GA DOR representative appreciated Silvia’s suggestion to make the certificate more readily available. He has asked that the Streamlined exemption certificate also be posted on the same page as their other exemption certificates.

Thank-you Mitch – and thank you Silvia!
